| WHY GO |
| The Bungle Bungles in Western Australia have recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stunningly beautiful, their ancient rocks are a gallery of Aboriginal art. Faraway Bay is in the northernmost part of Western Australia, in a barely known site that is rich in the extraordinarily accomplished art of the first Australians. The place was probably deserted by its Aboriginal inhabitants more than 150 years ago and has been known about for only a couple of years. Tidal movements in the Timor Sea mean that it is accessible for only six months of the year. It is an exciting discovery in an unfamiliar yet controversial area of study: Australian archaeology. This is a journey to the outskirts of a paradise on earth, where travellers - guided by people who really know the place - can discover the therapeutic quality of life in the Australian bush and study some of the most fascinating paintings in the history of art. |
