WHY GO
Spain's third city is experiencing a fresh sense of glamour and modernity. The advent of the 32nd America's Cup in 2007, is breathing new life into the harbour area; and big name architects such as Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry are involved in a $2,000-million project to further develop the coastline. Back in town the Palau de les Arts opera house, the final part of Calatrava's City of Arts and Sciences, opens this autumn; and the IVAM (Valencian Institute of Modern Art) is due for transformation by Japanese duo SANAA. Happily, easyJet has introduced cheap flights to the city, too.
