This hotel is housed in the American Radiator building, a stunning black-and-gold 1920s landmark. Rooms overlook either the Empire State building, a public library or the park that gives the hotel its name. Just off Fifth Avenue, The Bryant is convenient for both Grand Central Station and Times Square. Although an Englishman designed the interior, rooms resemble dream New York lofts: white walls, wooden floors, sleek Italian furniture in warm colours and streamlined bathrooms with huge porcelain sinks. The Bryant Park has scored a bull's eye with its restaurant. The food at ILO is sensational but pricey (all-beef tasting menu with wine, $120). Expect an unusually slim clientele twice a year when Fashion Week frenzy descends on the city and a marquee covers Bryant Park.
