THE AMALFI ROAD

AMALFI COAST, ITALY
PHOTO GALLERY
Be brave, be careful and be insured. Those are the three rules that should be at the forefront of your mind as you head from Salerno to Sorrento - across and around the peninsula - and back. It's wise to do take to the road only during autumn and spring months: come mid-June and gorgeous summer weather, the roads will be full of tourists attempting to do a bit of driving, locals driving dangerously and the regional blue SITA bus drivers heading - head first - round blind corners. It is an amazing way to discover the Amalfi Coast, just keep your eyes on the road (try not to get too mesmerised by the views) or you might get a bit too close to the white-knuckle drops at the edge of the tarmac.

The tourist offices in Salerno, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento can recommend places to rent a scooter.
