| 'Our aim was to create a unique Yorkshire inn,' say Andrew and Jacquie Pern who bought The Star in 1996 and have acquired a Michelin star for their good, locally-sourced food. Dishes are served in the low-ceilinged, atmospheric bar and in a small dining room. Andrew Pern produces traditional French cooking with a Yorkshire influence (fillet of sea bass with garlic roast snails, Burgundy style sauce,
shavings of summer truffle and braised saddle of rabbit with grain mustard mash, crispy York ham, braised French style peas). The bar area is a 14th-century thatched inn with low beams, candle-lit nooks, open fires, padded pews and a faint smell of woodsmoke and beeswax in the air. You can eat here when the restaurant is full. Situated opposite to The Star Inn, Cross House Lodge has been converted from traditional farm buildings into eight stylish bedrooms, with a separate dining room, a lounge area and an open plan kitchen. The Star Inn Corner Shop sells wonderful local and British produce together with an abundance of homemade delicacies. Dinner around £30 per person excluding wine. Rooms from £140, visit
